BIRDLIFE

Marakele National Park is home to the largest colony of Cape vultures Gyps coprotheres in the world. It has about 900 breeding pairs.

Most of thebirds found in the Waterberg inhabit the deciduous woodlands. The escarpment of the southern rim of the Waterberg Mountain Range also supports isolated populations of typical Highveld birds, such as the blue crane Antrhopoides paradisea, clapper lark Mirafra apiata and Stanley's bustard Neotis denhami.
